Humanware admits spoke too soon on screen reader for Blackberry

Blind Bargains Podcast interview with Michel Pepin

Amid much angry talk from users who waited more than a year for the much touted Oratio screen reader for Blackberry smartphones, Humanware's Michel Pepin spends a lot of time on his back foot explaining away the long wait (over a year), the lack of features (no web browsing or 3rd party app support), the number of supported handsets (1, the Blackberry Curve 8520), the absence of any communication with enthusiasts on accessiblebb.com, and who is to blame (everyone else?).

Blind Bargains' J.J. Meadows was much kinder than necessary in this extended interview which still manages to expose how the very early announcement and lofty projections for supported handsets left many users high and dry after already purchasing a device in advance of the release.

No doubt the 4-way partnership responsible for Oratio will learn important lessons moving forward, and future releases of this bittersweet first step will make strides.
