Better Podcasts on the way at BlindMind.net
by Ted Mc from BlindMind.net, 12 Apr 2010
Thanks to our readers and listeners as we have ramped up this website, Blog, and Podcast over the last few months. The official launch was January 1st of this year, but we didn't really get into gear until the end of January, and started to hit our stride a bit in March.
That's not to toot our own horn, though. There is so much more we want to do, and talk about. And there are definitely still some challenges to overcome. First and foremost of these is the website itself. I know it has some design flaws that make it not as accessible as I'd like, mainly due to the way this site builder template and interface are set up for customers like myself. The product is really only designed for very small, non-complex websites, and we are quickly outgrowing it, and wanting to offer better features, more content, and a desire to build a community of users who wish to both learn and contribute to others' learning. We have seen the traffic on this site grow quickly over the last few months, both in web traffic, and especially Podcast listens/downloads. We're very grateful/humbled that there are people out there who enjoy our point of view, and the technology-related content we post.
I am in process of investigating the moving of BlindMind.net off of a site builder style interface, and over to a traditional hosting package which will allow us much greater flexibility and configurability of the site's features and interface for users. I've also just taken delivery of some long-awaited recording gear to make production of podcasts, and recording of interviews much better, and hopefully less time-intensive. We may be a bit quieter in terms of content publishing for a few days while the new gear is installed and tested, as the placement of this gear requires the entire room and work bench space to be re-designed. The new recording setup may also require some additional slight investment to get it where I want it to be, but this will already hopefully be a good step forward.
I'm not very good at asking for help sometimes, and I also have a problem with others laying a heavy-handed, always asking for money kind of guilt trip on people. So I'll just ask/say this once. Obviously the site has ongoing costs already, and we want to expand our offerings. Recording gear also costs money. We are not supported or funded by any other company or entity, and while we would accept advertisers, we do not currently have any ongoing agreements that bring in a set amount of funds to cover site costs.
If you enjoy what you get out of BlindMind.net, and would like to take a personal stake in its continued growth, you are welcome to donate funds via PayPal. Payments can be sent to email address blindmind@blindmind.net — we will also place a "Donate" link on the main website at www.blindmind.net — We won't bug you on a regular basis for this. Thanks to any who would like to help.
Sincerely,
Ted Mc from BlindMind.net
