Humanware has released another free update for its Companion software for the Victor Reader Stream, bringing it to version 3.2, and further expanding the capabilities and functionality of the first mainstream portable Daisy player.
While it's great to see continuing development on the software front, I for one wish they'd hurry up with the next hardware version to replace the now antiquated features of the Victor Reader Stream 3. Other players are coming out with bluetooth, WiFi, stereo voice recording, radio, and in much smaller packages. The next hardware version of the VRS will need to be as impressive as the continual software functionality, and they will no doubt deliver.
In this free update, the languages supported by the VRS are now expanded to 14, with more on the way.
The Companion software now supports conversion of MS Word documents to HTML, and PDF documents to text files, so that they can be played on the Victor, which is very convenient.
There is also an optional paid release called the Softpak, at a cost of $49, which also brings support for DOCX and EPUB files to the Stream, as well as the ability to record in WAV and MP3 format, and support for MP4 audio files (including iTunes), and Audible Enhanced Audio Books.
