News:   Android receives accessible email client
from Media Access Australia

Mobile device operating system Google Android has just employed its first accessible email client, K9.

The K9 E-Mail application is an adaptation of the existing client, allowing Android’s speech software, Google Talkback, to access the content to assist people who are blind or vision impaired.

Details about the various accessibility features of Google Android can be found in the smart phones and tablets section of the Media Access Australia website.

Although Android is not as accessible as comparable platforms such as iOS that run on the iPhone and iPad, this is an encouraging sign that the open-source community is starting to improve its operating systems.

Further information and download details can be found on the K9 accessible E-Mail client download page.
