I saw the link regarding the publisher protests in the U.S. and I have ask ask this: if I, as a blind person, purchase a title, only to have the publisher "turn off" text-to-speech on a whim, doesn't this constitute fraud or theft? it certainly violates the law in a lot of other places.

I have some experiences with text to speech software programs, I recommend Panopreter Plus (http://www.panopreter.com) to Windows 7 or vista users, The software reads text and converts the text to mp3 and wav files with the voice of Microsoft Anna.
Best of all, it's very simple to use. A free edition is available too.
